Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba on Tuesday launched the 2023 edition of the Magical Kenya which will run from March 9-12 in Nairobi.
Speaking during the event at Kasarani, Namwamba expressed his delight at the event, which for the second year running will be held at the historic Muthaiga Golf Club.
Ababu said that hosting of the event is a clear demonstration of the confidence the organizers of the Tour has in Kenya noting that “it’s an honor to host events of this pedigree”.H“The government sees this as a confirmation of the confidence from the international golf bodies on Kenyan golf courses and architectural setup that meets the pre-requisite of international standards,” the Sports CS said, adding that, “The Magical Kenya Open comes immediately after we successfully hosted the Magical Kenya Ladies Open at the Vipingo Ridge Golf Resort in January 2023 in Kilifi County which was a very successful event.
We continue to be keen to elevate the ladies event in order to create equal opportunities to both men and women who are our compatriots and continue to showcase their prowess. This tournament continues to confirm that Kenya is home to golfing tournaments,” said Namwamba.
The CS at the same time applauded the Kenya Open Gold Limited for creating an opportunity for Kenyan golf professionals and amateur golfers through the safari tour while offering them a platform to play at the Magical Kenya Open, which, to him, is part of the bigger government plan in packaging sports and tourism together through a special project dubbed ‘Sport Safari’ and eventually see the Safari Tour become a major event locally, continentally and globally.
In this year’s event Kenya will be represented by eight professional and six amateur golfersHlfers
