Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick Odhiambo reckons they can shake off their slow start to the season and run away with the Kenyan Premier League title.
The FKF Cup defending champions are currently ninth on the log with seven points—eight adrift of leaders Posta Rangers.
However, Odhiambo said they still stand a chance to win the title and it would be unwise to write them off with only six matches played thus far.
"It's still too early in the season and we have only played six games. I believe we can still catch up with the top-placed teams and charge for the title," Odhiambo said.
"Our next match against Nzoia at Sudi on Sunday is crucial because a win could propel us to the top five depending on how other teams above us play at the weekend," Odhiambo said.
Odhiambo urged his charges to step on the gas peddle as they grope for their third win of the season. They have won two games, lost two, and drawn the same number of times.
"We have experienced players who can deliver the title if they put in the level of effort that is needed. We are determined to return to the continental stage and we will give our all to achieve that target," Odhiambo remarked.
Homeboyz will hope to reap maximum points from Nzoia Sugar who are still struggling to find a footing in the top tier.
The Bungoma-based millers, who are a pale shadow of themselves compared to the preceding season, have only registered a solitary win from their six matches this season. They have lost two times and shared spoils in the rest of their encounters.
Head coach Godfrey Oduor is confident his charges are beginning to get the script right after kicking off the season on a low note.
"We have experienced a rough patch so far occasioned by the mass exodus of players at the end of the preceding season. It's encouraging to see that the players are beginning to gel and I believe positive results are now on the horizon," Oduor said.
"It takes time to build a winning side and you'll notice a marked improvement in the performance of the squad as time goes by," Oduor added.
Oduor will look to replicate the amazing form the side exhibited last season when they cracked a top-five finish in the cutthroat competition.
