The build up to the 2023/24 BetKing Ethiopia Premier League is taking shape with seven of the clubs in action at the 17th Addis Ababa City Cup at the Abebe Bikila Stadium in the capital.
The participating clubs include Ethiopia Coffee, newly promoted Shashemene City, Hadiya Hossaina, new boys Ethiopia Commercial Bank as well as Saint George, Ethiopia Insurance and Adama City.
Early results from the tournament saw wins for Hadiya Hossana and Ethiopia Coffee, with both winning their games.
In the opening match, Yohannes Sahle's Hadiya Hossana defeated Betselot Leulseged's Ethiopia Commercial Bank 2-1.
Hadiya Hossana's Biruk Endale bundled the ball into his own net in the 17th minute to hand CBE the lead.
In the 65th minute, Fikdau Deneke scored the equaliser and Samuel Yohannes the winner in the 83rd minute.
In the second match, Ethiopia Coffee also came from behind to clinch victory.
In the 10th minute of the match, Fuad Mohammad catapulted Shashemene City into an early lead.
However, Chala Teshita equalised in the 33rd minute before new signing Kakoza Darek scored the winner for Coffee in the 70th minute.
Shashemene City will take on Hadiya Hossaena in the second round on Thursday, while Ethiopia Coffee will tackle Ethiopia Commercial Bank.
