Two revellers were left nursing serious injuries after they were reportedly beaten to a pulp by two night guards at the Piai trading centre, at the Kirinyaga – Embu border.
Residents said that the two men were imbibing at a popular bar in the area when they were allegedly beaten before being dragged to a nearby cemetery ground.
Wachoro sub-location Assistant Chief Daniel Maina confirmed the incident.
“The incident indeed happened, and appropriate action will be taken against the suspects once proper investigations are done,” noted Mr. Maina.
Mr. Maina also noted that the matter had been escalated to the Assistant Deputy County Commissioner Mr. David Mukung – who later came to the shopping centre to address rioting residents.
Reports indicate that Charles Waweru, 25, and Paul Muthoka, 29, sustained injuries to the head and limbs – and had to be rushed to hospital.
“I was shocked to see my brother Waweru lying in a pool of blood at the cemetery area in Embu county side,” said Kennedy Mwangi, noting that a Good Samaritan helped rush his brother and his friend to hospital.
Mr. Mukang has since ordered for the closure of the club.
The two guards are currently being held at the Makutano Police station.
