GSU saw off Kenya Forest Services (KFS) in straight sets to continue their perfect start to the 2022-2023 Kenya Volleyball Federation National Men’s League season which entered its third leg Friday at Nyayo Stadium.
The champions claimed the first two sets in identical 25-18 points before labouring to win the third set 27-25, to start the three-day event on a high note.
The paramilitary side tops the 16-team league on 12 points after four matches and they play Prisons Mombasa and Prisons Central Saturday and Sunday respectively.
The Gideon Tarus-coached side are however poised to get walkovers should their opponents fail to turn up as by Friday the two sides had not arrived in Nairobi.
At the same venue, former champions Kenya Prisons overcame a second-set scare from Equity Bank to triumph 3-1 sets while KDF dominated Rift Valley Prisons with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-23) sets win.
Kenya Prisons head coach David Lung'aho said he was targeting maximum points from the three matches this weekend with his sights firmly set on the top four finish.
“We’re targeting to bag all the points even as we eye the play-off spots. We not only want to qualify, but we also want to ensure we win as many matches as possible,” he Said prior to their fixture against the Bankers.
Kenya Prisons are ranked fourth on nine points having won three matches and lost one in the previous two legs.
They face Trail Blazers Saturday and then wind up the third leg against Rift Valley Prisons on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Trail Blazers were awarded three points after the Vihiga County team failed to honour their matches.
