Google AI Photo to Video Tools Now Live in Photos and Shorts Apps
Google’s new AI photo to video features are rolling out to Google Photos and YouTube Shorts, allowing users to effortlessly transform still images into short video clips. This feature—initially teased in Gemini—is now integrated into everyday apps, offering quick and creative content creation directly from your photo library. Whether you're looking to animate your memories or enhance your social media content, the AI-powered tools are now just a tap away for users in select countries.
Google AI Photo to Video Tools in Google Photos
The Google AI photo to video feature in Google Photos lets users create short six-second videos from their images using AI. Unlike Gemini’s more advanced Veo 3 model, this tool uses the slightly older Veo 2 engine and comes with limited functionality. You won’t be able to type your own prompts—instead, you’ll choose from preset options like “Subtle movements” or “I’m feeling lucky.” Despite the constraints, the tool is intuitive and ideal for quick visual enhancements without any editing experience.
Google AI Photo to Video Integration in YouTube Shorts
YouTube Shorts also benefits from the Google AI photo to video rollout. Unlike the Google Photos version, Shorts gives users a bit more control by letting them select how long they want the video to be. However, similar to Photos, the prompts are still fixed and don’t support custom text inputs. The tool is designed to make content creation seamless for casual creators, especially those aiming to post engaging AI-generated content on the go.
New Remix Feature and Watermarking for Transparency
Alongside the Google AI photo to video functionality, Google is launching a new Remix tool in the US, available within the Google Photos app. This tool lets users reimagine photos in various artistic styles like anime, comics, 3D animation, or sketches. All these creative tools will live in a new “Create” tab for easy access. To ensure transparency and trust, videos will include a visible watermark and be tagged with SynthID, Google’s invisible digital marker that signals AI-generated content.
