Gaspo pulled a 3-0 upset against Zetech Sparks in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) women’s Premier League match at Gems Cambridge.
The Jacob Mulee-coached side continued their unbeaten run in seven consecutive premier league games following the win.
Goals from Diana Wacera in the 6th minute and Emily Okute in the 39th minute saw the title contenders go 2-0 up in the first half before sealing their win with a third goal from Adrine Birungu in the 83rd minute.
Mulee said his side is aware of tough competition from Vihiga Queens and will be ready. “Football without pressure is nothing and we have a lot of pressure from Vihiga but we respect them,” said Mulee.
He added: “We came here to get the three points and ensure we did not concede and we achieved that so I am happy,” he added. On the other hand, Sparks are win-less in the last two games with relegation looming over their heads. The Bernard Kitolo-coached side fell to Vihiga Queens last weekend. Kitolo said his side would fight to stay in the league till the end.
“We still have a problem with our finishing. We had over eight chances today but we could not put the ball in the back of the net,” Kitolo said.
“This is something we will work on as a team and we will make sure we take every game at a time,” he added. Sparks goalkeeper, Stella Ahono was handed a straight red card for handling the ball outside the box.
Elsewhere, Vihiga Queens beat Trans Nzoia Falcon 3-1 in an exhilarating match held at Mumias Complex.
They continued their title charge with goals from Anita Namata (37th minute), Providence Khasiala (80th), and Bertha Omitt (88th) to seal the win.
Meanwhile, Nakuru City Queens and Thika Queens played to a 1-1 draw. Chris Kach opened the scoring for Thika in the 14th minute while Elizabeth Muteshi equalised in the 54th for Nakuru.
