Garissa traders have called on the county government to act to put the cattle menace under control.
This comes as traders’ businesses have been disrupted by roving cattle, which invade stalls, chasing away customers and destroying produce.
The cattle are also regularly spotted crowding the road, making motorists compete for road space.
Ahmed Abdi, a motorist said, “These cattle come and take over the road and damage vehicles. My side mirror was destroyed. It has a crack and whom I going to go after in this case? It’s a loss.”
“There are others whose cars have been totally damaged by these cattle and they are left having to foot the bill. We need the county to get these cattle out of the town.”
Susan Mwendwa, a trader said, “Cows pass through our stalls picking Sukuma wiki, maize and other produce. There are other times the cattle attack customers.”
Benson Kitheka, another trader said, “We don’t even get a chance to go to the mosque because the cattle have taken every available space.”
Garissa municipality manager, Mohamed Buul, said the cattle owners have been put on notice.
“We are giving them time to get their cattle out or we will deal with them. There has been a rise in cattle in the town, but we are working to ensure they are moved to the outskirts.”
