TS Galaxy claimed a hard-fought 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in a DStv Premiership match played at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The victory saw the Rockets climb up to the third spot on the league standings after recording their second win of the campaign and they will now travel to the KwaZulu-Natal where they are scheduled to face Royal AM on August 27.
Chiefs, on the other hand, extended their winless run against Galaxy to six competitive matches and they remained 13th on the standings and they will be hoping to record their first league win of the season when they face on August 26.
Both teams struggled to create clear-cut chances in the opening stages of the encounter - displaying indecisiveness and poor finishing in front of goal. The game started to open up towards the halftime break.
Christian Basomboli Saile had a chance to score in the 40th minute after outmuscling his marker, but he placed his shot wide of the target and at the other end, Kamogelo Sebelebele fired a tame shot straight into goalkeeper Brandon Petersen's hands in the 44th minute, and the score was 0-0 at halftime.
The Rockets were the better side after the restart and they managed to break the deadlock in the 49th minute after some good work by Higor Vigal who cut inside from the left and his shot hit the back of the net to make it 1-0 to Galaxy after rebounding off both the upright and Petersen who netted an own-goal.
Amakhosi exerted pressure on the hosts with keeper Vasilije Kolak forced to produce a low save at the near-post - denying Saile at the near-post in the 63rd minute and Given Msimango headed over the crossbar from the resultant corner a minute later.
Chiefs pushed forward in numbers and they were left vulnerable at the back which saw Petersen produce late saves to deny Lefa Hlongwane and Sebelebele. Ultimately, the match ended in a 1-0 victory in favour of Galaxy on the day.
