Farmer on Fire Chief Executive and Founder Wangari Kuria says the resilience village based in Kitengela, Kajiado County will provide resources and hands-on training to build skills aimed at reducing vulnerability to the impacts of climate change.
“The village will serve as a hub to disseminate ideas and innovations to vulnerable communities, which in turn test these concepts and spread into other communities,” she says.
“In our experience, we have realized that Farmers learn best by physically seeing and doing and this model to targeting to inspire and uptake resilient and adaptive practices in the wake of climate change.”
The village contains, Mushroom Production House, Goat Pen, Chicken House, and Rabbit House, Azolla Pond, Office And Youth Hub, Green House, Black Solder Fly Larvae House, Fruit Tree Nursery, Compost Processing as well as a Seed Bed Unit.
“In our experience, we have realized that Farmers learn best by physically seeing and doing and this model is targeting to inspire and uptake resilient and adaptive practices in the wake of climate change,” Kuria added.
Fitted on 1/8 th of an acre the village has capacity to produce 1 ton of tomatoes per season, 50kgs of high value mushrooms, 4 tons of BSFLarvae per month, 4,000 cubic tones of carbon sink, and harvest 10,000 liters of rainwater weekly.
“We can also process 10 tons of agricultural waste monthly and Lower cost of livestock feeding by 45 percent for a farmer and his communicate. We can also collect 1kg of cooking gas daily and produce 10kgs monthly of protein dense animal feed- azolla,” she notes.
The firm is planning to launch more resilient villages in other parts of the country, with a focus on Arid and Semi Arid Lands.

Kuria was recently among three Africans recognized in the New York Global CItizen Prize Award 2023.
Kuria was recognized for profoundly impacting local communities by providing information to farmers across Africa in the fight against food insecurity.
