Fabrizio Romano has revealed what he's heard about Sporting Lisbon midfielder Pedro Goncalves amid reports linking the player with a move to Liverpool.
Reds legend Mohamed Salah continues to be rumoured with a move away from Anfield, with Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad originally keen on signing him.
In the meantime, Liverpool are thought to be keeping tabs on versatile midfielder Goncalves, who can also play on the wing.
According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Liverpool are among a handful of Premier League clubs interested in signing the 25-year-old, who has an €80m (£68m) release clause. And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now lifted the lid on what he knows about the player, revealing that Sporting are desperate to keep the player.
Speaking to CaughtOffisde, Romano said: “Sporting always wanted to keep Pedro so it was never a negotiation last summer.
“For sure he’s going to be one to watch in the next years, but at the moment people close to him guarantee there’s nothing decided or close.”
So far, the Goncalves has made 133 appearances for the Portuguese giants, scoring 59 goals and registering 34 assists in that time. The midfielder first announced himself on the European stage when he scored a stunning chip from near the halfway line against Arsenal in the Europa League round of 16 which helped them defeat the Gunners on penalties.
But should Salah end up staying in Merseyside, there will be less of a need for Goncalves, who has admitted he is happy at Sporting.
