Former Manchester United midfielder Lee Sharpe claimed teammate Roy Keane could be a "nasty drunk at times" in his younger days.
Keane moved to United in 1993 from Nottingham Forest to begin a trophy-laden 12 years at Old Trafford.
During his time under Sir Alex Ferguson, Keane became United captain and won seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League, before departing in 2005.
When Keane made the switch to United, Sharpe was already at Old Trafford, having made the move there himself in 1988 from Torquay United.Sharpe took Keane under his wing when the midfielder made the switch to United and took him out, but claims that the new signing was "aggressive" and even alleged that he was a "nasty drunk at times".
Sharpe said he "looked after" Keane in certain situations, sometimes putting the midfielder in taxis to send him home and to ensure he was "out of trouble".
Though Keane fell out with teammates at times at Old Trafford, Sharpe said he never had one himself with the former United captain.
Indeed, he claimed he my be the only person who didn't fall out with the Irishman, who he described as "amazing".Speaking to the Under the Cosh podcast, Sharpe said: “Keaney was amazing, I love Keaney. I think I’m probably the only footballer that he’s ever knocked around with that he’s never had a fall out with.
“He’s had arguments and tantrums with everybody I know but for some reason [not me]. I’m the type of player he would have hated if he was playing against me. He was the total opposite of me.
“I looked after him when he first got to United. I took him out. He was aggressive and quite a nasty drunk at times.
“I looked after him in certain situations and put him in cabs, sent him home and got him out of trouble. So I think he appreciated that.
“We sat next to each other in the training ground, we went out loads. He was different class. What you see is what you get with him. No messing around.”
