Comedian Eric Omondi has been arrested for the second time in a month, this time as he tried to distribute flour to his fans at City Stadium.
Omondi, who is being held at Industrial Area Police Station. had invited Kenyans to attend the food distribution exercise.
The comedian had previously stated that on Tuesday, March 7, he would lead a march from Uhuru Park to State House in protest of the high cost of living.
Omondi stated that he was attempting to assist Kenyans who are unable to afford basic necessities such as flour, sugar, and cooking oil.
He claimed to have purchased the flour out of his own pocket.
“Wakenya wenzetu hawana unga. Ni unga tu nilikuwa napeana,” Omondi said before he was whisked away by police.
This is not Omondi’s first arrest for protesting against the high cost of living.
He was arrested on February 21 after blocking Parliament Road with a group of shirtless men demanding an audience with Speaker Moses Wetang’ula but was eventually released on bail.
Omondi has also had run-ins with the law for other reasons. He was arrested in November 2021 for storming Parliament buildings in order to demand more local content on media stations.
He claimed that foreign music and film were stealing the airwaves from local talent.
