Eight teams are set to grace the Prescott Cup national tournament slated for October 12-14 at the RFUEA and Impala grounds.
Speaking Thursday, Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) development officer Ronald Okoth said the tournament will be played on the first two days at the RFUEA ground with Impala ground hosting the final on the same day.
Schools from Western, Nyanza, Rift Valley, Central, Eastern and Nairobi will grace the three-day rugby championship.
Okoth observed that the Prescott national event was due to be played in Nyanza this year but due to logistical challenges, it was moved to Nairobi.
“ We had planned to play the tournament in Nyanza but due to logistical challenges and lack of a venue, we will play in Nairobi for the second year running, ” added Okoth
Nyanza will be represented by champions Kisii High and runners-up St Marys Yala. Kisii High defeated St Mary's Yala 7-5 in the final at Lion's High in the Nyanza qualifier. Western will be represented by East Africa Sevens champions Koyonzo, who edged Vihiga 5-0 in the final last weekend. Nairobi and Central regions will have their qualifiers on Saturday.
The Central qualifiers Mangu, Alliance, and Kiambu converge at Mpesa Academy in Thika while 2022 Prescott Cup champions Ofafa Jericho, Upperhill, Lenana, and Dagoretti converge at Catholic University ground with one team qualifying for the national from both regions
Okoth said the Prescott Cup national tournament is a development event to cater for stunts under the age of 18. “This being an examination term, the event will feature mostly Form ones, twos and threes," he said
Okoth said the union is keen to revive the Kenya Schools Combined with the help of the Kenya Schools Secondary Sports Association (KSSSA).
“ Plans are underway to revive the team and tap into the talent which is vast in this country."
