Several passengers on Sunday, April 2, survived an accident involving an Easy Coach bus along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
No fatalities have been reported from the accident but one passenger was, admitted to Naivasha hospital.
The bus that was heading to Malaba is reported to have collided with a trailer an hour before midnight near the Gilgil Weighbridge.
The driver had attempted to evade the trailer before colliding with it on the side causing him to swerve off the highway.
A few passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to the Gilgil subcounty hospital for treatment while those who survived the incident proceeded with their journey.
The main cause of the accident remains unknown as investigations continue.
The accident comes a few days after an accident that involved a Pwani University bus and a 14-seater matatu that led to the loss of 18 lives.
The bus that was ferrying students and some staff for a sporting event in Eldoret developed a mechanical breakdown before hitting a matatu that was also headed in the same direction.
According to the latest data from the National Transport and Safety Authority, the number of road fatalities decreased by 4.6 per cent in the past year.
NTSA detailed the number of fatalities involving pedestrians, passengers and motorcyclists had reduced from 1,021 to 974 between March 20, 2023.
Driver fatalities, however, increased from 95 in 2022 to 98 in 2023 while passenger fatalities increased from 154 in 2022 to 171 in 2023.
Pedal cyclists' road crash deaths increased from 15 in 2022 to 17 in 2023.
