Damien Durandt, the son of the late Nick Durandt, produced his second world champion when his fighter, Belgium-born Yves Ngabu, stopped defending IBO cruiserweight champion, Australian Floyd Masson, in the sixth round at the Eaton Hill Hotel in Queensland, Australia, on Saturday night.
His first world champion was Ilunga Junior Makabu.
The 34-year-old Ngabu was in control from the opening round as he took the fight to the 31-year-old Masson and forced the pace, not allowing the champion to get into the fight.
Due to the pressure from Ngabu, the Australian had to fight off the back foot and never got into the fight.
At two minutes into the sixth round Ngabu scored with a left hook to the side of Masson’s head and as a result the champion turned his back on Ngabu.
As the champion turned around Ngabu stepped in immediately and, after a number of punches, sent him down for a count.
The southpaw Masson managed to beat the count but was in no condition to continue as the referee Aill Soulis stepped in to stop the fight at 2 minutes 32 seconds into the round.
At the time of the stoppage the scores were 49-46 on all three judges’ scorecards.
Ngabu improves his record to 22-2; 16 and Masson’s record dropped to 13-1; 7.
