David Beckham has responded to recent ‘fix’ claims after Lionel Messi inspired Inter Miami to another dramatic victory.
On Wednesday night, Messi and co. were hoping to continue their fine form against Cincinnati in the US Open Cup.
However, they found themselves 2-0 down after goals from Luciano Acosta and Brandon Vazquez. Messi then had a hand in his side’s comeback as Leonardo Campana scored a brace to level things up.During the extra time period, Josef Martinez gave Inter Miami the lead before Yuya Kubo made it 3-3 to take the tie to penalties.
Inter Miami ended up winning the shoot-out 5-4 to advance to the final.
The victory meant Messi remains unbeaten since joining the MLS outfit last month.
In recent weeks, people have claimed that the matches have been fixed for Messi to win, something Beckham has now responded to.Speaking after the Leagues Cup final a few days ago, the Englishman said: “Every time Leo [Messi] scores one of these goals, every time Busi [Sergio Busquets] makes one of these passes, every time Jordi [Alba] makes one of these runs, people say ‘Is it a fix?’“It’s the biggest compliment that anyone can give these players because it is like a movie. You watch these players play and it’s emotional because everything about their play is beautiful. Everything about their mannerisms is beautiful and everything about them as individuals, off the pitch, is beautiful.”
After the match against Cincinnati, Beckham wrote on social media: “Another great night in pink. A great performance from the team to reach another final. Very proud.”Inter Miami will now take on Houston Dynamo in the final of the US Open Cup, which will take place on September 27.
Before that, Messi is set to make his long-awaited MLS debut this weekend when Inter Miami take on New York Red Bulls on Saturday.
