David Beckham has revealed what he bought with his first pay cheque at Manchester United.
The 48-year-old former midfielder, who spent 12 years at boyhood club United before joining Real Madrid, is the face of a four-part Netflix series with unprecedented access to his life.
Featuring never-before-seen personal archive footage from the last 40 years, as well as interviews with family, friends and footballing figures, Beckham opens up about his journey like never before.
Ahead of the official release on October 4th, Becks also revealed what he bought with his first pay cheque of £27.50 at Old Trafford.
Speaking in an interview with SPORTbible at the premiere of his documentary in London. he said: "I bought a watch. I was earning £27.50 a-week. And I probably shouldn't say the brand of the watch because I have a great brand in Tudor."In the documentary, Beckham says he bought a BMW M3 worth £50,000 with his first Adidas contract.
“He’d get his salary on a Friday, spend it all on Saturday, and wait for a week until his next pay cheque to buy the matching jacket to a pair of jeans he’d already bought," added best friend Gary Neville.
As well as buying a fancy watch and an M3 in his early days at Manchester United, the self-confessed big spender splashed out on a fancy pen, of all things.
That's according to Roy Keane, who couldn't believe his eyes when Beckham walked in with the item.
"He was the first to do it," the Irishman said when discussing his decision to buy a flash car. "He certainly upped everyone’s game in the car park, I’ll give him that."
Keane then added: "He also bought a fancy pen. I was like ‘who the f*** buys a pen? Who buys an expensive pen?’ Shirts and clothes and all that I get, but who buys a pen?"
