Tottenham defender Cristian Romero was substituted just moments after scoring his side's opening goal against Brentford.
The Argentinian rose highest to power James Maddison's free kick into the net, although he had to wait for a lengthy offside check by VAR to conclude.
Romero remained on the pitch to celebrate the goal once it was announced on the big screen, but manager Ange Postecoglou then gestured towards him to leave the field.
The defender clearly wanted to stay on, but the Australian manager was insistent in Romero being substituted.Postecoglou then embraced the Argentinian as he left the pitch, with Davinson Sanchez replacing him at centre-back.Although no official reason has yet been given for the substitution, Romero had clashed heads with Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo in a previous move.
A number of team-mates had earlier surrounded the Argentinian after he scored Tottenham's equaliser, with the decision taken to allow him to take no further part in the match.A concussion suffered by Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris led to a review and subsequent change of concussion laws in English football back in 2013, when he was allowed to play on despite being knocked unconscious from a collision with Romelu Lukaku.
Now, any player with concussion-related symptoms must be removed from the pitch immediately before play continues.
