Chevy Silverado EV Breaks Record for Longest Single-Charge Drive

The Chevy Silverado EV has made headlines after completing a world-record-breaking journey of 1,059.2 miles on a single charge. General Motors achieved this feat at its Milford Proving Ground and Detroit’s Belle Isle over a seven-day period. Engineers used specialized techniques, including driving at speeds of 20–25 mph, to maximize battery life. Optimizing performance required several adjustments, such as inflating the tires to the highest safe pressure, removing the spare tire, aligning the wheels, and even lowering windshield wiper blades to reduce drag. A tonneau cover was also installed for smoother airflow, and climate control remained off to conserve energy.

The Silverado EV Work Truck’s stripped-down design played a significant role in its extended range. Unlike its luxury siblings, this model lacks heavy features like leather interiors and massive touchscreens, making it lighter and more efficient. Previous tests had already shown the vehicle’s impressive range, with Edmunds recording 539 miles on a single charge. This latest performance, however, more than doubled that result and surpassed the official world record held by Lucid Motors’ Air Grand Touring, which traveled 749 miles.
