Nancy Cherop and Josphat Kipkirui led a Kenyan 1-2 finish in their respective 1,500m races at the ongoing Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday night.

Cherop clocked 4:12.38 to set a new championship record, beating compatriot Janet Chepkosgei to second in 4:14.24. England's Lyla Belshow completed the podium in 4:16.37.

Kipkirui set a second championship record of the night after clocking 3:37.66 to clinch gold medal while fellow countryman Andrew Kiptoo settled for silver in 3:38.12.

In other results, Cyclists Daniel Kiptala and Billy Graham clocked 1:33.55 to finish 14th and 15th respectively in a photo finish. Ferrity Oisin of Northern Ireland won the road race in 1:33.05, beating Wales' Bufton Max to second in a photo finish.  

In girls' rugby, Kenya's Cub Lionesses finished fourth after falling 22-10 to Fiji in the bronze medal match. Ann Namunyak and Brenda Nyabiage scored two unconverted tries for Kenya in the defeat. Australia defended their title from 2017 after thrashing Canada 50-0 in the final.

In the boys' para-athletics discus throw, Kenya's Titus Maundu settled for a silver medal after recording a 20m throw in the F63 class. Another Kenyan Nicholas Kalonzo finished fourth after throwing 23.33m in the F64 Class. South Africa's Daniel Tumiso won the gold medal with a throw of 26.34m in the F42 class.

In beach volleyball, the pair of Sharon Jepkosgei and Abigael Chebet romped into the semifinals after beating England's duo of Daisy Boardman and Alice Jagielska 2-0. The two will face the Canadian pair of Calinda Kok and Katarina Drozd on Wednesday night.
