Motsepe says CAF was impressed with the plans presented by the three countries, saying it promises to be a massive hit, only if the plans are followed to the latter.

“I was very happy with the presentations they made and the fact that all three Presidents were greatly involved as well was a huge thing for us. This can be the best AFCON ever. What we have wanted as CAF is to spread our tournaments across all zones. The East Africa region is hosting the tournament for the first time in 51 years and this is huge,” noted Motsepe.

He was speaking on Friday morning in Dar es Salaam, as CAF launched the trophy of the inaugural African Football League (AFL).

He also held a meeting earlier in the morning with Tanzanian president Samia Suluhu Hassan, alongside FIFA boss Gianni Infantino, who is also in Dar for the AFL opener pitting Simba SC and Egypt’s Al Ahly.

Motsepe said he held fruitful discussions with President Samia, especially concerning the successful hosting of the Cup of Nations in 2027.

“We discussed at length on how to make this event successful and most importantly, getting the job done. Government availing the resources needed will be very key and I am really happy with the commitment that she has made,” Motsepe further added.
