Bunyore Starlets' head coach, Timothy Ondeka has attributed their good start to the Kenya Women’s Premier League season to adaptability.
Ondeka revealed their back-to-back victories this season were due to a change of tack and strategy. "We don't just play! We model our training depending on our opponent's style of play. We also have our own style of play which we have adopted and it has been working well so far."
The team's impressive start saw them defeat last season's runners-up, Gaspo 1-0, followed by a dominant 4-0 victory over Trans Nzoia Falcons at Mumboha grounds.
Despite being tied with the reigning KWPL champions Vihiga United at the top of the league table with six points apiece, Ondeka remains aware of the goal ahead.
He highlighted the significance of a solid formation and effective counter-attacking. "For us, a good formation and counterattack is very important in our style of play. Coordination and teamwork are equally as important," said Ondeka.
Bunyore have set eyes on the Premier League title and Ondeka has vowed to keep up with the competitive nature of the league.
"We do our best to train well because every game is not easy. We take one game at a time. The league is very competitive and every team is strong in their own way. I believe every team in the league is a title contender, including us. So, we hope to push for the title and compete at the highest level," Ondeka added. Bunyore Starlets face Zetech Sparks on October 21 at Gems Academy.
Ondeka acknowledged the challenge posed by Zetech Sparks, noting "Facing Zetech in the coming days will be tough. There are better sides out there. We want to make sure we are well-prepared and ready for that fixture. We have three major injuries but I doubt they will affect us,'' he concluded.
