Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has named his final 23-member squad for the international friendly matches against Namibia and DR Congo next month.
Broos’s charges host Namibia on 9 September (kick off is at 3pm CAT) and DR Congo on 12 September (5pm) in matches that are part of the coach’s preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast in January next year, and for the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers in November.
Both matches will be played at Orlando Stadium, in Soweto, in Johannesburg.
The Bafana Bafana coach said the two matches will help him get closer to the kind of team he has in mind for next year’s Afcon and the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers
“We worked on it in the last seven or eight months to have that squad, to have that selection of 23, 25, 28 players. We have it now,” he said. “In these two coming friendly international matches, we have a few injuries and we can give the opportunity to other players to prove themselves, try to earn a place in the squad.
“So I think it’s a very good situation.”
Broos said he is happy to use the two games to look at other players and see what they can offer.
