The Moises Caicedo saga has taken a huge twist after an unnamed club tabled a bid of more than £80 million for the Brighton midfielder.
The Ecuadorian has attracted interest from a slew of clubs this summer, with Chelsea pushing hard to sign him.
Brighton are playing hard-ball over Caicedo and want to recoup as high a fee as possible - especially given the player only recently extended his stay until 2027.Chelsea are believed to have bid £80 million in their fourth and most recent proposal but The Athletic claim an offer eclipsing that has been put to the Seagulls from a different club.
There is no word on who the club in question is, but it is said that bid was rejected by Brighton as they are looking for a sum closer to the £105 million Arsenal forked out for Declan Rice.
The Gunners heavily courted Caicedo in January and the former Independiente del Valle man openly admitted his desire to make the move to the Emirates. However, Brighton turned down their bids of £60 million and £70 million, deeming it to be below their valuation of Caicedo.
Still, even with Rice in their ranks, some Arsenal fans think there is a chance that they are the unnamed club.
One wrote: "Arsenal could hijack Moses Caicedo deal."Caicedo has been with Brighton for pre-season as normal and manager Roberto De Zerbi has said he will be replaced if he leaves.
"If Caicedo leaves, we will bring another big player. If Caicedo stays with us, I will be very happy,' De Zerbi said after a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle in New Jersey.
