The Hollywoodbets Dolphins coaching staff have handed young allrounder Eathan Bosch the captaincy for the upcoming CSA One-Day Cup campaign that starts this weekend.
The 25-year-old Bosch has played all his professional cricket at the Dolphins after arriving in Durban from Hilton College and has become an important part of the Dolphins squad with impressive performances with both the bat and ball.
The Dolphins head into a new season hoping to replicate the success of last campaign in the four-day competition but want to make a mark on the One-Day Cup.
The decision to make Bosch the 50 over captain was not taken in haste and Bosch made sure that he made the correct decision when offered the role.
"Taking over the captaincy when Keshav (Maharaj) isn’t around is something that the coaching staff and I spoke about for a couple of months and something that I had quite a bit of time to think about," Bosch said.
"I think Imraan (Khan) spoke to me at the end of last year about it already.
"The question from the coach opened my eyes to thinking about the game a bit differently during the SA20 and I watched the leaders and how they do things.
"It's a massive honour to lead the guys in the One-Day Cup."
Taking on the captaincy is slightly foreign for Bosch but it's a role that he is relishing heading into the new season.
"Being a captain has never really been something that I thought about until I was asked because my focus has always been on winning games for the Hollywoodbets Dolphins," Bosch explained.
"I felt that I was a leader in my own right in terms of the things that I did on the field, so I feel I've moved into a leadership role quite naturally.
"There are going to be a lot of challenges and I have the right support next to me in terms of some of the senior players in the squad.
"I have a good support structure with me going into the competition and really looking forward to get going this week.
"I'm excited to see what sort of cricketer I become in this role, and I hope that it brings out the best in me and I can help lead the Hollywoodbets Dolphins to a 50 over trophy."
The Hollywoodbets Dolphins begin their CSA One-Day Cup campaign against the Gbets Rocks on Saturday, 16 September at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium.
