Floods wreaked havoc on more than 102 households, leaving 700 people displaced at the weekend in Chepalungu, Bomet county.
It was one of the disasters that followed heavy rains pounding most parts Bomet since Saturday.
Water has filled latrines and caused them to overflow rendering Bingwa and Siongiroi locations unfit for human occupation. Mud-walled buildings have also collapsed.
Bomet disaster management officer Stanley Mutai said the affected families had to vacate their homes and were moved to safer grounds.
Mutai said the rains could affect more families and early evacuation was necessary.
He said though there was early notice concerning potential disaster, many of the victims did not heed the warning.
Affected families were being hosted at nearby primary schools, while some are living in makeshift shelters.
Children and the elderly are the most affected in the calamity, while the victims were in dire need of relief food and medicine.
Bomet Red Cross Society chairman Cheruiyot Baliach said they had jointly with the county and national governments distributed food, clothing and bedding, among other essential items.
Baliach said the victims were also in need of psycho-social support especially the children who were most traumatised.
Health officers have stepped up disease surveillance as waterborne diseases are likely to break out following overflowing latrines, which have discharged human waste to water sources.
