Strathmore University Blades coach Tony Ochieng has vowed to be aggressive against Absa in tonight's Kenya National Basketball League match at Nyayo Stadium gymnasium.
Ochieng said they have made a shaky start in the league, losing two of their four matches and his target is to get maximum points from the two games this weekend. Blades also tackle win-less Equity Bank on Sunday.
“These are two tricky fixtures but my plan is to get four points. We are well prepared as the training has been fantastic. My plan is to be aggressive and I have told my boys as much.”
On Saturday, former national champions Ulinzi Warriors, who have won two of their games, play Africa Nazarene University, who are fresh from their 68-62 win over the University of Nairobi “Terrorists”.
There will also be a women’s match-up, pitting Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) “Lynx” against the University of Nairobi “Dynamites”.
League leaders Nairobi City Thunder, who have torched teams sinking over 90 points in the process meet a new-look Kenyatta University “Pirates” side in an eagerly awaited tie.
The students, who are fresh from their 68-38 defeat at the hands of reigning champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in Mombasa last weekend, are ready for the free-shooting Thunder.
“After our match in Mombasa last weekend against the champions, the boys are now settled and are ready to take on anyone. There is some confidence and sense of belief in the team,” said coach Caleb Osewe.
Thunder, who have taken the league by storm with some impressive signings, will welcome back Griffin Ligare and James Mwngi who were in Serbia for the Red Bull 3x3 finals.
“We are aware every team will bring their ‘A’ game against us and we are ready for KU. We have trained well and will not take any team lightly, ” offered assistant coach Sadat Gaya.
Strathmore University Swords, who cut UoN 71-38 on 22 points from Consolata Atieno will confront TH3 Swish as Eugene Genga’s UoN Terrorists” face off against Absa.
