Four months after the General Election, the country has moved on and so has Kikuyu musician Ben Githae.
The singer pledged allegiance to President William Ruto’s administration on Monday, ditching the Raila-led Azimio La Umoja Coalition.
Speaking during the burial of Trade CS Moses Kuria’s sister, Githae urged the Head of State to welcome him and other musicians (who were dancing to a different tune) with open arms.
Famous for his hit Tano Tena, Githae is no stranger to Ruto, having composed a song that played a part in ensuring former President Uhuru Kenyatta and the then DP got a second term.
Upon learning of the President’s visit, Githae admitted he was conflicted on whether to attend the function, having campaigned for his fiercest rival, Raila Odinga, barely five months ago.
“On Friday, I went to visit CS Moses Kuria and I was informed that you (Ruto) will be coming. I asked myself whether I should come so that we meet or not.
“I said I will come and face you and tell you we want to move on after the other side failed…many of us were supporting Azimio but we are here today. Sir James and Kigia are also here,” he said.
Adding: “You went to Nyanza and said that 99% of them did not vote for you but you welcomed them…In your house, there are many mansions.
“In Central, only 20% percent did not vote for you.”

Githae further requested DP Rigathi Gachagua to invite musicians for a sit-down where they can map a way forward for ‘the people of the mountain.’
“Riggy G, you called all Jubilee MPs for dialogue. Please also call us who abandoned you so we can talk to you. We have good news for Mlima Kenya and will not be divided again.”
During a recent interview with Pulse, Githae, who often gets trolled for jumping ship, said his choices are often guided by a clear conscience.
“I saw Kenyans trolling me the other day after I was captured in a picture with the ODM leader Raila Odinga and businessman SK Macharia. Some were saying that I have moved to support Baba, but what they didn’t know was the context of our meeting.
“But I am now used to trolls. I have lived with the notion that I can be trolled anytime and even trend for negative reasons so that does not bother me anymore,” he said.
