The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) to protest the deployment of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers to bandit-prone areas.
Speaking on Saturday during the burial of Tony Barkutwo, who was killed by bandits, the leaders defended the decision by government to deploy KDF to quell banditry in all affected areas.
Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and SMEs Simion Chelugui said government is committed to end banditry adding that already security officers have already in the ground to face off with the bandits.
However, LSK is against the KDF deployment, saying the Interior Ministry implemented the changes without the approval of the National Assembly.
In a letter to Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, LSK President Eric Theuri said the deployment is a violation of the 2010 constitution, giving a three-day ultimatum.
“In the event, no action is taken within the next three days, we shall regrettably move to court to have the gazette notices quashed and seek to have the government compelled to comply with the law,” LSK President Theuri said.
