Mikel Arteta and Arsenal are braced for an unexpected transfer windfall this summer thanks to a former player.
With plenty of business yet to do before the closure of the window on September 1, the Gunners are close to receiving a small financial boost from one of Mikel Arteta's unwanted players of the past.
The Spaniard alongside Edu has managed to complete several key moves this summer, including big moves for Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and David Raya most recently.
With a significant transfer outlay taking the spending to over £200m, the club must sell before they buy again in the last few days of the transfer window.Scottish full-back Kieran Tierney as well as USMNT striker Folarin Balogun are both seemingly close to exits, with transfers to Real Sociedad and Monaco reportedly in the works.
Other players that have been linked with a move away are all mostly fringe names, including Cedric Soares, Nicolas pepe, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares.
Whilst these players continue to look for moves, former Gunner Matteo Guendouzi's reported exit to Lazio worth £15.4m is set to lead to unexpected windfall for Arteta. It was reported by the Mirror in January, that Gunners chief Edu had included a 15% sell-on clause in Guendouzi's trnasfer to Marseille.
After one season under Igor Tudor's management where the club finished third, Guendouzi seems to have fallen down the pecking order under new boss Marcelino.
Should the Frenchman's move to Lazio be completed, Arsenal are reportedly likely to receive £1.5m, which will be a welcome addition in balancing the books overall.
This is the second player whose 10% sell-on clause will help Arsenal, after Konstantinos Mavropanos' £17m move to West Ham United from Stuttgart in Germany.
Whilst the windfall from these deals may not contribute hugely to the club's ability to complete transfers, it does bring in valuable income for other areas to take care of.
