Anthony Taylor has been appointed as the referee to take charge of Chelsea’s opening Premier League clash against Liverpool.
As the Premier League makes its long-awaited return this weekend, the full list of officials has been published.
Ahead of the weekend, it has been confirmed that Taylor will take charge of the match between Chelsea and Liverpool.
The clash between the two Premier League giants will take place at Stamford Bridge on 13 August with kick-off at 4:30pm.Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has had his fair share of controversies with referees over his time at Liverpool.
Last season, Klopp was dismissed by Taylor during Liverpool's 1-0 win against Manchester City at Anfield, where Mohamed Salah scored the winner against Pep Guardiola's men.
Taylor was also in the headlines after his performance during the Europa League final was criticised by Roma manager Jose Mourinho.Craig Pawson has been chosen to take charge of the curtain raiser, Burnley vs Manchester City on Friday 11 August.Whilst the likes of Michael Owen, Peter Bankes, David Coote, Stuart Attwell, John Brooks, Andy Madley will be officiating matches taking place on Saturday.On Sunday, Robert Jones will be the man in the middle for Brentford’s London derby against Tottenham Hotspur before Taylor takes charge of Chelsea vs Liverpool.Rounding off the opening fixtures, Simon Hooper will be the referee for Monday night’s match between Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Going into the new season, City are the favourites to lift the title as they chase a fourth successive crown. Meanwhile, the likes of Arsenal, United, Chelsea, Newcastle, Liverpool and Spurs are all hoping they can compete with Guardiola's treble winning team.
On Sunday, City lost out to Arsenal in the FA Community Shield on penalties after the match ended 1-1 after Cole Palmer's opener was cancelled out by Leandro Trossard deep into extra time.
