WBO middleweight champion Janibek “Qazaq Style” Alimkhanuly meets IBF middleweight champion Vincenzo Gualtieri in a title unification matchup at the Fort Bend Community Centre, Rosenberg, on Saturday night.
Janibek (14-0; 9), who is from Zhilandy, Kazakhstan, won the WBO title in 2022 and has made two successful defences against British champion Denzel Bentley on an unanimous 12-round points decision last November and against Canadian Steven Butler in May.
Gualtieri (21-0-1; 7) made his pro debut in October 2015 and in his 16th fight he fought to a draw against fellow unbeaten German Thomas Piccirillo in August 2020.
He won the vacant IBF middleweight title this year against Brazilian Esquiva Falcao.
TSZYU DEFENDS WBO TITLE AGAINST MENDOZA
Tim Tszyu is the favourite to beat Brian Mendoza on Sunday afternoon in their matchup for Tszyu’s WBO junior middleweight title at the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Australia.
Tszyu (23-0; 17) made his pro debut in December 2016.
He won the WBO interim junior middleweight title against Tony Harrison (tko 9) and made a successful defence of the interim title against Carlos Ocampo (ko 1) before being elevated to full champion.
The 29-year-old Mendoza (22-2; 16) turned pro in 2014 and has held the WBC interim light middleweight title since April 2023.
This is a tough challenge for Tszyu as the challenger is coming off two big wins with knockouts.
However, the odds makers have Tszyu as a 6-1 favourite.
