Sofapaka FC head coach, Ezekiel Akwana, has expressed confidence in the team bouncing back into form after a highly beneficial and productive international break.
Akwana pointed out that he has had the opportunity to assess all aspects of the squad and individual player performance during this break.
“The break has helped me see what to change and what to keep. The remaining days are crucial for me and the technical bench if we are to produce positive results at the weekend,” quipped Akwana.
Akwana recently took over the helm of the 2009 FKF Premier League champions after the exit of Burundian coach Francis Haringingo who left the club following a poor run of results.
His first match in charge came against league debutants Murang’a Seal at St. Sebastian Park in Murang’a, where they lost 2-0 courtesy of a brace from John Kiplagat.
The veteran tactician reiterated that he would use the remaining days before the league resumes to get his players ready and be in the best shape both physically and mentally.
“In the remaining few days before the league returns, we will use those days to get the boys in shape both physically and mentally in order to get good results in the coming game,” the gaffer said.
The team currently sits bottom of the league with just one point and are at risk of relegation if the performance does not improve.
Akwana had earlier expressed his desire to turn the tide for the team after his appointment, citing the vast talent and depth in the squad.
Sofapaka brought in 17 players before the start of the 2023/24 season including the return of Burundian striker Fiston Abdul Razak and defender Moussa Omar in a bid to challenge for their second league title.
Batoto Ba Mungu will take on Kenya Police FC in Game Week Seven at the Machakos Stadium on Saturday.
The law enforcers are sixth in the league with just two wins. The last time the two played ended 3-0 victory for the Police.
