Bidco United head coach Antony Akhulia has set reaching the final of the FKF Cup tournament his main target this season, a step higher after finishing third in 2021.
After cruising to the round of 16 thanks to a narrow 4-3 win over Lions FC through penalties, the Akhulia-led boys are tasked to square out with KCB for a ticket to quarter finals.
“We qualified through penalties in the hands of the Lions and we aim and hope to go all the way to the finals.
“The main target is to go a step higher than last season when we had this competition (2021) where we finished third behind champions Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards (second placed)”, said the soft spoken Akhulia.
However, Akhulia sees their next opponents as 'most stubborn' since it is one of the few teams Bidco has failed to record maximum points against since their promotion to the top tier league.
“That will stand as our target (reaching finals) because I think every season we need to improve on what we did in our last season where we finished third.
“But for now we have a tough opponent ahead of us who are KCB. KCB have been such a bogey side for us in the league this season and it’s the only team in the league that we have not yet beaten since we got promoted to the top-tier league”, Akhulia added.
Besides targeting the FKF Cup finals, Akhulia is also keen to ensure that his charges finish among the top guns on the FKF Premier League log as he sets 52 points this season.
“Our expectation was to reach 30 points in our 1st leg but only managed 22. We still have that in mind and therefore going all out for 30 points in the second leg”, concluded Akhulia.
United are in position 11 with 22 points after playing 17 matches which is half the season.
