Recruitment of Interns for Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies: Enhancing Youth Empowerment and Professional Development
The Public Service Internship Programme (PSIP) stands as a beacon of empowerment for the youth, initiated by the Government with a primary objective to provide college graduates with valuable hands-on experience and skill-building opportunities.
Its mission is to enhance their employability, foster networking, and cultivate entrepreneurship.
With great delight, the Public Service Commission (PSC) announces the commencement of the recruitment process for Cohort 6, aiming to engage 8,000 interns during the Financial Year 2023/2024.
To be considered for an internship position, candidates must fulfill the following criteria:
Interns selected for the PSIP will be entrusted with essential duties and responsibilities, which include but are not limited to:
i. Fulfilling assigned duties agreed upon with their supervisors.
ii. Documenting the skills and knowledge acquired during their deployment.
iii. Actively participating in relevant mentorship activities and additional responsibilities designated for the programme.
The PSIP internship program will span a period of twelve (12) months, providing interns with an immersive experience to grow both personally and professionally. However, it is important to note that this internship is non-renewable.
As a token of appreciation for their dedication and commitment, interns will receive a stipend at a rate determined by the Government, which will help support them throughout the duration of the program.
Upon successful completion of the Internship Programme, participants will be duly awarded a certificate, acknowledging their invaluable contributions and the skills they have acquired during their internship.
The PSIP has been instrumental in bridging the gap between education and employment, providing graduates with practical exposure to real-world scenarios and challenges. By creating a platform for interns to refine their skills, develop a strong professional network, and explore potential entrepreneurial ventures, the program has received widespread acclaim and support from both participants and stakeholders.
Throughout its previous cohorts, the PSIP has been a driving force behind the success stories of many young individuals who embarked on their journey with the Government’s support and guidance. Graduates from various disciplines have benefited from the program’s diverse opportunities, be it in administrative roles, research positions, or specialized technical roles within different ministries, departments, and agencies.
The recruitment of Cohort 6 signifies the Government’s unwavering commitment to empowering the youth and fostering their growth into skilled, competent, and well-rounded professionals. By engaging in public service internships, participants gain exposure to the inner workings of the government, understanding its functions, and contributing to the formulation and execution of essential policies.
Interns, while contributing their innovative ideas and perspectives, are also paired with experienced mentors who provide guidance and support, allowing for a robust learning experience. This mentorship aspect plays a crucial role in shaping the interns’ character and instilling a sense of responsibility, accountability, and dedication.
Not only does the PSIP benefit the interns, but it also brings fresh perspectives and energy to the various government institutions involved. The infusion of new talent has proven to be invaluable in bringing about positive changes and fostering a culture of innovation and efficiency.
Moreover, the PSIP serves as a stepping stone for interns to establish lasting professional connections and expand their network within the government and beyond. These connections often prove to be instrumental in securing future job opportunities or even becoming potential partners in entrepreneurial ventures.
As the world continues to evolve, so does the demand for a skilled and adaptable workforce. The PSIP plays a vital role in meeting this demand by empowering graduates to become self-reliant, resilient, and adaptable to the ever-changing job market. The internship experience equips them with real-world problem-solving skills, leadership qualities, and the ability to thrive in diverse and challenging environments.
The Government’s commitment to supporting the PSIP is a testament to its dedication to nurturing a talented pool of individuals who can contribute to nation-building and sustainable development. By investing in the youth, the Government not only secures its future but also ensures a steady supply of skilled professionals who can drive the nation forward.
The Public Service Internship Programme is a transformative initiative that continues to impact the lives of young graduates positively. By offering an unparalleled platform for skill development, experiential learning, and personal growth, the PSIP remains an invaluable asset to both the Government and the youth.
