AFC Leopards captain Washingtone Munene has termed their long-awaited first win this season as a morale booster and a perfect indicator of good things ahead.
The 12-time Kenyan Premier League champions had to wait till the eighth match to chalk their first win after suffering one of their toughest starts to the league. Prior to the weekend win they had recorded three defeats and four draws.
"Our first win comes in the eighth match which we have been eagerly waiting for and working hard to earn.It comes as a big morale booster to the players because it will be like a tap-opener for us as we head to the remaining matches.
We have climbed up two places and this shows a win is very important and that we will bank on it to take us where we want to be this season," said Munene.
Ingwe have climbed two places to position 15 on seven points, 12 behind the red-hot early log leaders Posta Rangers.
"Regardless of the winless run, we will hope to use yesterday's[Sunday] win to improve and prepare ourselves for even a good run and bigger wins.
The win can serve as a perfect stepping-stone for us because it is not that we have not been putting in much effort in our matches but it was a matter of putting things right for us to get it,"Munene added.
Munene has also rallied fans to be patient with the Thomas Trucha-led side and believes better times lie ahead for the big cats.
"We are happy for our fans who have been passionately supporting us, pressurizing us because they demand wins from us.I want to tell them to hold on tight, rally behind the team and also brace for sweeter days ahead,” he said, adding that, “We understand their frustrations when they are not happy and have lost confidence in us."
Leopards next host Kariobangi Sharks on Wednesday before travelling to City Stars on Saturday.
