Lionel Messi has reportedly decided on his future with Inter Miami.
In the summer, Messi left French giants Paris Saint Germain to sign for MLS side Inter Miami, who are part-owned by former Manchester United midfielder David Beckham.
Since Messi’s arrival, the popularity of Inter Miami and football in the United States has grown massively.However, despite only being at the club for less than four months, it has been reported that Messi will not extend his stay with the Miami club.
According to Catalonian news outlet El Nacional, Messi has no intention to sign an extension with Inter Miami when his current deal expires in 2025.
The report claimed that the Argentine will leave Inter Miami and return to boyhood club Newell’s Old Boys, where he plans to retire.
Argentine club Newell’s Old Boys were the first team Messi played for after joining them at the age of just six.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner spent five years with Old Boys before being lured to European football by Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona.
In Europe, Messi went on to become arguably the best football player to ever play the sport.After winning the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with Argentina, Messi left PSG to join Inter Miami, where he has scored 11 goals and assisted five in 12 appearances across all competitions.
Back in 2017, Messi spoke about a potential return to Old Boys. As per the Daily Mail, he said: “I've said many times that my dream is to play at Newell's but I don't know what will happen, and a part of that doubt is due to the way the country is at the moment.
“I have a family and my children come first, and then me. I want them to grow up in a calm place, being able to enjoy life with security.”
