A project by the Amref Health Africa in collaboration with the Ministry of Health is set to benefit 12 health facilities in Machakos County by supplying them with oxygen pipings and manifold.
Health CEC Dr. Daniel Yumbya confirmed that the project, which is funded by the Global Health Organization, is estimated to cost approximately Ksh.100 million.
In addition, the health facilities will receive monitors, oxygen cylinders, oxygen splitters, and further refillable oxygen tanks will also be installed.
Among the 12 health facilities set to benefit from the project are: Masinga level 4 hospital, Kimiti level 4 hospital, Muumandu level 3 hospital, Ekalakala level 3 hospital, Wamunyu level 3 hospital, and Sengani level 3 hospital.
Others are Katangi level 3 hospital, Matuu sub-county level 4 hospital, Mitituni level 4 hospital, Mbiuni community level 3 hospital, Bishop Kioko level 4 hospital, and Kathiani level 4 hospital.
According to Dr. Yumbya, stakeholders agreed that the project begins in three weeks, and promised to ensure every facility receives the supplies.
Upon consensual agreements on finances, there will be oxygen supply for one whole year within the 12 facilities into which the agreement is subject to be renewed.
The CEC noted that the project will enhance service delivery and enable patients access oxygen from level 3 and 4 facilities nearest to them without having to travel all the way to the level 5 hospitals.
