Crystal Palace have aimed a not-so-subtle dig at Chelsea after winger Michael Olise signed a four-year deal with the club.
They may have activated the £35 million release clause in his contract at Selhurst Park but in a dramatic turn of events, money-happy Chelsea missed out on signing the France U21 international this week.
Olise, who was one of Palace's standout performers last season, registering two goals and 11 assists, posed alongside chairman Steve Parish as he penned his new contract.
“I’m absolutely delighted to announce [Michael Olise] has decided to commit his future to Crystal Palace football club and this afternoon signed a new four year deal with the club," Parish said.
A few hours later, Palace's official Instagram account celebrated the news by posting a video of Olise's superb assist for Eberechi Eze in their 2-0 win over Bournemouth last season. But rather than the assist itself, it was their decision to add the song Chelsea Dagger by The Fratellis to Olise's assist that got people talking online.
One fan commented: "Song choice is incredible well played," while another said: "Bruh the song, smart with it."
A third added: "Using Chelsea Dagger as the music is genius."Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson opened up about Olise's decision to sign a new deal at the Eagles on Thursday.
"It’s the best possible news we could have," he said. "I had been concerned – it’s always concerning when a club of Chelsea’s stature take interest in a player, and people will suggest that a move to them might be the best bet.“I had always hoped that wouldn’t be the case and that Michael would realise that at such a young age his future here is very bright, and we can help him move very quickly on to another level.
“I am delighted for the club, and I must congratulate Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman on the fantastic job they have done in persuading him that, even though there was pressure from outside."
