Onyango, signed by K’Ogalo at the start of the season, was played more upfield as an offensive, and clocked 86 minutes before he was replaced by Tusker’s Daniel Sakari.
“He has worked well and if someone works well and shows they deserve to play, they will play. He is not somebody who is pushed by the media or other people. He is only concentrated with football and he is working well. He is a good potential and is ready to work on it and I am happy that we have one more player,” Firat said after Monday’s friendly match.
Onyango’s performance will offer more solutions on the right side of defense for Firat, with Denmark-based Daniel Anyembe having impressed against Qatar and South Sudan, while midfielder Amos Nondi has also effortlessly played on the position.
With Sakari also returning from injury and having clocked some minutes in Antalya, Firat has his options stocked ahead of November’s World Cup qualifiers against Gabon and Seychelles.
Meanwhile, looking back at Monday night’s match, the coach was impressed with the team’s performance, save for the first goal conceded which he said was down to nerves.
“We were very organized and played well. Many people expected us in this kind of game to get five or six goals and I am happy that we disappointed them and showed that we are in a good way to compete with big teams and I hope that we can take this to the World Cup and AFCON qualifiers,” the coach added.
He praised his players for their maturity in controlling the game especially after going down by a goal early on, and says had they taken their chances, they would have won the game by a bigger margin.
