President William Ruto joined workers at his Eldoret farm on Saturday.
In the photos seen by the Star, Ruto is seen doing the harrowing and helping the workers in seed planting.
During a church service at AIC Fellowship in Eldoret Sunday, Ruto told the congregation he had decided to spend his Easter in the village so as to supervise the planting process.
This, he said, is part of his administration’s measures to increase production to address the cost of living.
This year, he said, he intends to double the productivity of the farm so that he can contribute to food production.
He also challenged farmers across the country to increase their efforts on the farm.
“We have a big debate in the country about the cost of living and how we need to reduce the cost of food but it boils down to what we do as farmers, so as a farmer I came down here to look at what I can do to make a contribution to food production in our country,” he stated.
He noted that the solution to the high cost of living is for farmers to produce the food locally "because we have the capacity" instead of relying on imports.
