Role Overview
This is a contract-based leadership position within an insurance sales unit, reporting directly to the Branch or Sales Manager. The core focus is to build and drive a high-performing team of sales agents by owning the full recruitment-to-retention cycle, while personally ensuring the unit meets its revenue, persistency, and business-mix targets. Day to day, you will set activity schedules, coach agents, monitor performance, and open new market opportunities, making your contribution directly visible in the unit's sales outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Own delivery of the unit's business plan targets across revenue, policy persistency, and the desired business mix, adjusting tactics as market conditions shift.
- Drive continuous agent recruitment and implement retention strategies that keep the unit stable and motivated.
- Monitor and evaluate individual agent performance through regular field visits, sales reviews, and activity tracking.
- Prepare the unit's daily and weekly work plans, assigning clear activity targets and follow-up schedules for every agent.
- Ensure agents have the tools, leads, and operational support required to meet their individual budgets and contribute to the unit's overall goals.
- Coordinate and deliver training programs that build agents' selling skills, product knowledge, and professional competence.
- Identify and penetrate new markets while advising management on emerging opportunities and competitive threats in the sector.
- Enforce performance management processes, uphold the company's brand image, and maintain full compliance with internal policies and external insurance regulations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least three years of demonstrable sales experience in the insurance or financial services sector, with a proven track record of meeting sales targets — ideally backed by time spent as an active insurance agent.
- A degree or diploma in a business-related field, with two or more years of experience as a Unit or Agency Manager in insurance or financial services considered a strong advantage.
- Must hold a Certificate of Proficiency (COP) and a current IRA license, with working knowledge of the legislation governing insurance in Kenya.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, plus the ability to listen empathetically to agents, clients, and stakeholders.
- Strong leadership presence, capable of planning and organising unit activities, building team cohesion, and resolving conflicts when they arise.
- Solid sales and marketing aptitude, including market intelligence, business development skills, and effective time management.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and the ability to use standard reporting and tracking tools for agent and unit performance.
