Role Overview
This role places you in charge of a dedicated insurance sales unit, where your primary mission is to build a strong team of agents and drive them toward ambitious revenue goals. On a daily basis, you will recruit, train, and retain sales talent while also setting activity schedules, monitoring performance, and stepping in to remove obstacles that slow your agents down. Because the position is contractual and reports to the Branch/Sales Manager, your success depends on delivering measurable results while safeguarding the company's reputation and regulatory standing.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the unit's business plan targets, including revenue generation, policy persistency, and achieving the desired product mix from your agents' portfolios.
- Recruit, select, and retain a steady pipeline of capable insurance agents, keeping the unit fully staffed with motivated sellers.
- Track and evaluate each agent's performance through daily activity plans, regular field accompaniment, and structured one-on-one reviews.
- Plan and run training sessions that lift agents' product knowledge, sales techniques, and compliance awareness so they can consistently meet their individual budgets.
- Supply your team with the practical support they need—prospecting tools, market insights, and administrative backup—to turn leads into actual policy sales.
- Open new market segments and expand the unit's reach, while flagging competitive opportunities and threats to senior management.
- Apply performance management processes firmly and fairly, addressing underperformance, resolving conflicts, and recognising strong contributions.
- Protect the brand by ensuring every agent follows internal procedures and external insurance regulations during all client interactions.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in a business-related discipline from a recognised institution.
- At least 3 years of proven sales experience in insurance or the broader financial services sector.
- A solid track record working as an insurance agent, with tangible examples of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
- Two years of experience as a Unit Manager or Agency Manager in insurance or financial services will be a distinct advantage.
- A valid Certificate of Proficiency (COP) and a current IRA license are mandatory.
- Sound working knowledge of the laws and regulations governing insurance sales in Kenya.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for reporting and presentations.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills, along with proven leadership and team-building ability.
- Strong planning and time-management skills to coordinate team activities and prioritise competing demands.
