Role Overview
This internship places you inside the Legal and Regulatory Section of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), where you will support the team’s work on legal research, regulatory monitoring, policy development, compliance tracking, and member advocacy. On a typical day, you will review emerging legislation, prepare summaries and position papers, coordinate meeting logistics, and help maintain contract records that keep the organisation’s legal obligations on track. Your contributions directly help KAM respond to regulatory changes and effectively represent manufacturers in engagements with government and regulatory bodies.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate and summarise legislation, regulations, policies, standards, and public participation issues that could affect manufacturers at both national and county levels.
- Track regulatory and legislative developments, then prepare issue notes, preliminary briefs, and updates for review by the legal team.
- Draft memoranda, position papers, issue matrices, consultation notes, and official correspondence that support KAM’s advocacy agenda.
- Compile and organise member input on legal and regulatory matters for use in advocacy engagements with regulators and government agencies.
- Maintain compliance calendars and action trackers, ensuring deadlines, timelines, and follow-up steps from stakeholder meetings are clearly recorded.
- Provide secretariat and logistical support for meetings, public participation forums, and consultations, including preparing agendas, minutes, attendance lists, and briefing materials.
- Review contracts, agreements, and memoranda of understanding for completeness, formatting, and required attachments, then update the contract tracker with status, renewal dates, and pending actions.
- Organise and file executed agreements, chase outstanding inputs, and escalate contracts that need review, approval, renewal, or closure.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognised university.
- Completion of the Kenya School of Law programme, with admission to the Bar either pending or recently completed as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
- Prior internship or attachment experience in a legal, regulatory, policy, or corporate environment is an added advantage.
- Strong legal research and analytical skills, with the ability to summarise complex information clearly.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for drafting documents and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
- Organisational skills and attention to detail, particularly for maintaining trackers, records, and meeting documentation.
