Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Support baseline surveys, beneficiary selection, planning, and data collection in collaboration with project team members
- Plan, organise, and supervise implementation of soil and water conservation works, including contour ridges, semi-circular bunds, check dams, terraces, and water pans
- Supervise contractors and train and oversee community working teams implementing erosion and runoff reduction measures under cash-for-work or asset-based modalities
- Ensure technical quality and compliance with approved designs, technical specifications, BoQs, environmental standards, and safety requirements
- Provide technical guidance and on-site supervision to contractors, site foremen, and community groups
- Draft maintenance manuals for constructed or rehabilitated water and soil management infrastructure
- Support preparation of work plans, BoQs, technical drawings, and contribute to tender evaluations and mobilisation of contractors and community groups
- Monitor work progress, verify quantities, and prepare technical reports, including best practices, challenges, and lessons learned
- Prepare technical documentation supporting payment clearances for cash-for-work activities
- Engage with community representatives and local authorities to ensure inclusiveness, ownership, and long-term maintenance of completed structures
- Ensure application of environmental and social safeguards, Prior Informed Consent (PIC), and gender-sensitive approaches at all work sites
- Contribute to capacity building of community groups and local partners on sustainable land and water management techniques
- Participate in field assessments, surveys, mapping, and impact monitoring activities
Qualifications & Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in English and Swahili
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related field
- Proven experience in cash-for-work, asset-based, or labour-intensive community works
- Strong experience in community engagement, mobilisation, and training delivery
- Demonstrated expertise in supervising small-scale earth, stone, and concrete infrastructure works
- Familiarity with hydrology, erosion control, watershed management, and sustainable land management practices
- Knowledge of environmental and social safeguards and PIC approaches
- Strong data collection and reporting skills, including use of GIS, Kobo, Excel, and similar tools
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and coordination skills
