Description: In 1998, CURE International, in cooperation with the African Inland Church, opened the AIC-CURE International Hospital in Kijabe, Kenya. Along with being CURE’s first hospital, CURE Kenya was Africa’s first orthopedic pediatric teaching hospital for children with disabilities. The 30-bed hospital provides care for children suffering from a wide range of orthopedic conditions, such as clubfoot, burn contractures, osteomyelitis, and other acquired or congenital conditions. The hospital also conducts mobile clinics to identify children in remote areas who can be treated at the hospital and to provide follow-up care for those who have received surgery. Located in the Rift Valley city of Kijabe, the hospital attracts patients from every region of the country. Through the training of surgeons, nurses, and healthcare professionals, CURE Kenya aims to improve the country’s overall capacity to treat disabled children.
Job Description

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure efficient and effective assessment, measurement and fitting of patients with orthopedic appliances that meet the standards set by the hospital. Both in the hospital and it’s mobile clinics.
  • Participate in regular Continuous Medical Education activities within the department.
  • Travel to mobile clinics to serve the patients.
  • Maintain the inventory of equipment and supplies on a daily basis, ensuring the inventory is secure and accounted for and reporting to HOD needed supplies to keep inventory at proper levels.
  • Maintain records of all work requested and completed; ensuring all work is recorded for proper billing.
  • General care for tools, machines and equipment.
  • Ensure that allocated areas of maintenance are maintained on a daily basis.
  • Embrace adopted methods of organizing the workplace.
  • Work towards zero customer complaints.
  • Conduct counselling and patient education appropriately.
  • Attend department staff meetings at all times.
  • Full participation in the hospital’s staff spiritual development programs.
  • Produce elbow crutches on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure appropriate training to students on attachment.
  • Approach the laid down strategic plans with a progressive attitude and actions.
  • Adequately follow through department set objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with set regulations towards staff safety.
  • Provide educational presentations within the hospital as may be required.
  • Understand and stay current with emerging technologies towards better patient services.
  • Work with the head of department in budgeting for future equipment needs.
