Job Description
  • This role sits in the IT department under the Data Strategy and Analytics function. The Head of Business Intelligence & Analytics is responsible for driving the Groups data-driven decision-making agenda by leading the design, development, and delivery of enterprise-wide BI solutions, management of the data warehouse & data lakehouse, analytics capabilities, and actionable insights. The role oversees BI Developers, Data Analysts, and Data Analytics Engineers at different seniority levels, ensuring high-quality data products that support business growth, operational efficiency, timely delivery of reports, customer experience, and regulatory reporting.

Role Responsibility

Strategic Leadership

  • Define and execute the Bank’s Business Intelligence & Analytics strategy in alignment with the Group Data Strategy and overall business priorities.
  • Champion a data-driven culture across all subsidiaries, enabling leadership and business units to make informed decisions.

Team & Capability Management

  • Lead and mentor a multi-disciplinary team of BI Developers, Data Analysts, and Data Analytics Engineers.
  • Establish best-practice standards for data modelling, dashboarding, data quality, analytics methodologies, and data storytelling.
  • Drive skills development, innovation, and cross-functional collaboration within the analytics communit

BI & Analytics Delivery

  • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of reports, dashboards, and self-service analytics tools across the Group.
  • Ensure timely delivery of insights to support strategic initiatives such as branch performance, pricing, digital channels, risk monitoring, customer behavioral analytics and so on.
  • Lead the consolidation of Group-wide reporting across subsidiaries (Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, DRC).

Technology & Architecture

  • Own the BI tools roadmap (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, OBIEE, etc.).
  • Partner with IT Infrastructure, Cloud, and Data Engineering teams to ensure scalable, secure, high-performance data platforms.
  • Manage the delivery of data marts, data warehouse and data lakehouse solutions.

Business Insights

  • Periodically generate business insights for the business teams with the goal of creating measurable value.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to provide data answers to problems presented. 

Qualifications

Role Qualifications.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or Data Warehousing, with 5+ years in leadership roles.
  • Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary data teams in a financial institution or large enterprise.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, python programming skill, data modelling, ETL/ELT, BI tools, analytics platforms, and cloud data architectures.
  • Understanding of banking processes, regulatory reporting, and financial KPIs is highly desirable.
  • Strategic and Analytical thinking.
  • Strong leadership and people development.
