Job Description
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the intern's assigned office, and the internship period.
- Under the supervision of the Associate Logistics Officer of the Facilities Management & Transportation Section – A-J Project (New Build and FWS), the intern will: Assist with design drawings, make sketches and complete basic projects.
- Discuss project requirements with your team.
- Organize files and materials.
- Visit worksites to make sure everything goes as planned.
- Prepare contracts, reports, CAD drawings and diagrams.
- Generate design development ideas.
- Research building codes and standards.
- Develop 3D conceptual designs.
- Prepare design mock-ups and color boards.
- Research the different types of building materials, lighting fixtures and other products Order product samples and do basic calculations for projects.
- Conduct research for the project team and/or revise drawings.
- Attend project staff meetings.
- Perform administrative work and analytical tasks.
Qualifications/special skills
- Bachelor's degree in architecture or other related fields.
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
- Have graduated with bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Experience in standard computer software applications is required.
- Ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views, is required.
- Keen interest in the work of the United Nations and having a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter is desirable.
- Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
