Quality Control Technician

Job Overview

Brites Management Services is seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Quality Control Technician to join our team in Kwale, Kenya. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Food Science and be familiar with HACCP principles. This role is crucial in ensuring the highest quality standards in our food and beverage products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular quality checks and inspections on food and beverage products.
  • Implement and monitor HACCP principles to ensure food safety and compliance.
  • Collaborate with the production team to address quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of quality control activities and report findings to management.
  • Stay updated with industry standards and regulations to ensure compliance.

Material Inspection & Testing

  • Physically inspect incoming raw materials for quality and compliance.
  • Conduct laboratory tests on raw materials, intermediates, and finished products (e.g., chemical composition, moisture content, pH, microbial tests).

Process Monitoring

  • Monitor production processes to ensure products meet specifications.
  • Test process water quality and other process parameters to maintain standards.

Non-Conformance Management

  • Identify defective materials or products.
  • Tag, quarantine, or report non-conforming items.
  • Assist in investigating quality complaints from customers.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Record lab results, QC inspections, and deviations in both hard copy and digital formats.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate and completed on time.

Training & Guidance

  • Provide hands-on training for production operators on QC processes and SOPs.
  • Assist in reinforcing GMP and GLP practices on the floor and in the lab.

Lab & Equipment Management

  • Maintain laboratory instruments and tools.
  • Ensure proper inventory of lab chemicals and supplies.
  • Keep lab areas clean and organized according to Good Housekeeping practices.

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Monitor adherence to food safety regulations (HACCP, GMP, etc.).
  • Participate in food safety audits and support R&D/NPD testing when needed.

Safety & Workplace Practices

  • Lead or participate in daily safety briefings (“Stop for Safety”).
  • Follow all occupational health and safety guidelines.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Food Science, industrial chemistry microbiology or a related field.
  • 3 years proven experience in a quality control role within the FMCG sector.
  • Strong understanding of HACCP principles and food safety standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
